About the garden

Bushey Rose Garden was completely restored by Hertsmere Borough council in 2010 thanks to funding from the Heritage Lottery Fund and Big Lottery Fund.

This Garden offer’s visitors a unique opportunity to experience Bushey’s Victorian past as many of its features have been preserved as was originally intended.  Through original owner Hubert Von Herkomer’s inception and renowned Landscape Architect’s Thomas Mawson’s design, the garden offers a place of peace and calm in perfect contrast to the adjoined high street. Along with its structure a lot of the original planting remains.

When are you open?

April to September 7:30am – 7pm, October to March 7:30am – 4pm

 

Opening times for the Summer House and toilets vary, please call 0800 731 1810 during office hours to avoid disappointment.

Are there toilets on site?

Yes, but they are only open when the gardener is on duty.

Can I bring my dog?

Dogs are welcome but must be kept on a short lead and out of the flower borders at all times. Dog bins are provided in the garden so please clean up your dog’s mess.

  • Rose Temple – Grade II listed

  • Summer House – Grade II listed, contains information on the history of the garden

  • Variety of roses, shrubs, perennials and bulbs

What can we see there?

Other important information

Please note that cycling and ball games are not allowed in the garden.

Please can adults supervise their children in the garden, especially around the Fountain to prevent climbing on damage to this historical monument.

The Fountain, Cloisters, Summer House and Column are all Grade II listed structures and must be preserved and prevented from vandalism or climbing on. 

The garden is not a memorial garden and ashes cannot be scattered here. If you wish to scatter ashes in Hertfordshire you need permission from the relevant council. Please contact our cemetery officer on 020 8207 7497 who can send you a list of suitable locations in Hertfordshire.
